Throughout and prior to 2024, people in Trump’s campaign or cabinet all called for the Epstein files to be released without any redaction, to persecute crimes (implied to be committed by powerful people) hitherto concealed. Though Trump himself remained hesitant, he nevertheless created the impression of the most transparent administration in history, leaving no holds barred against elites who use their undue power to hide their crimes from the public.All of this debacle takes place after numerous boisterous promises to release the list among key governmental officials, furthering the outrage amidst the base. Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and the president’s own son have all called for declassification of the Epstein case, which was roughly achieved with the declassified files regarding JFK’s assassination. In principle, such a release should be seamless like those files were in March; yet, they have yet to be released in any capacity, amidst a number of excuses made by the administration.Amidst those bold promises made by Trump surrogates, the White House and GOP have baited the release with significant fanfare and even juvenile trolling — a broader reflection of the overall state of the administration. The claim now is that those Epstein files, which Bondi claimed were on her desk and were “released” to MAGA-adjacent influencers on X, do not exist. Actually, they are a Democrat hoax comparable to the nine-year-old Russia scandal, concocted by the Democrats to undermine the legitimacy of the second Trump presidency.Eventually, he capitulated in some capacity by calling for the Grand Jury Testimony to be released, a watered-down delivery on his administration’s promise of honesty which has significant problems of its own, including the omission of “personal identifying information” of those criminally implicated. Grand Jury testimony is unlikely to reveal anything unknown about the case, and that release was stymied by a federal judge regardless. His attempts to divert attention from the files, be it “new evidence” of former President Obama’s interference with Trump’s first campaign, or release of six thousand files dealing with MLK’s assassination, has only fueled the flames of outrage further against the president. The incessant diversions (and whatever new distraction the administration will conjure in the forthcoming weeks) has only cast more and more doubt onto the scandal. Even the most diehard MAGA influencers, whose loyalty to the President knows no bounds, have been forced to recognize that something is awry — though Trump is in no way at fault, of course.The fiasco reached an epoch when suspicion regarding Trump’s involvement with Jeffrey Epstein was confirmed on July 23, as the DOJ informed the President that his name is indeed in the Epstein files — which he was told in May. This revelation was not disputed by the White House, surprisingly, adding more dirt onto the debacle which has overshadowed any other news regarding Trump in July (though not without an attempt by the president).Admittedly, Trump’s inclusion within the Epstein files should not come as any surprise. He has infamously been caught on video and picture with the disgraced financier, and Epstein testified under threat of perjury that he was “Donald [Trump]’s closest friend for ten years”. Many in his base had previous knowledge of his relationship with Mr. Epstein, often rationalizing its acceptability to themselves under a multitude of excuses (most commonly that Epstein was barred from Mar-a-Lago for hitting on a girl, purportedly due to Trump’s discovery of his heinous crimes). What is shocking, is Trump’s brazen and unapologetic lie and diversion throughout the ongoing saga, that has undermined a large amount of credibility he held in the right.Why this scandal in particular enraged the Trump base into arguably the only tangible pushback against the President is what the initial case for Trump was nearly a decade ago. Commonly, the go-to policy for Trump supporters’ reason for Trump in 2025 is his push for mass deportations (which have thus far failed to materialize). Spending any time in “Trump World”, particularly among the further-right Trump supporters, will create the illusion that mass deportations are the only issue that affects American politics, and it is such that every other issue — usually Israeli dominance in foreign and domestic policy, and now this ongoing catastrophe — can be ignored so long as mass deportations are prioritized.However, mass deportations, more broadly illegal immigration, was not what propelled Trump to his unprecedented political success in 2016. Of course, illegal immigration played the most dominant role in his domestic policy, but it alone would not have given Trump the two political upsets that stunned the world, granting him two presidential terms. Mitt Romney’s failed 2012 campaign featured similar talk on illegal immigration (before backtracking in a stunted attempt to garner Latino votes), and even echoed Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller’s call for ‘self-deportation’ — derided by then-reality star Donald Trump as ‘maniacal’. Granted, Trump offered much more scathing rhetoric in regards to illegals, however that rhetoric has yet to be realized into policy.What Trump offered, however, was a chance for the American people to reclaim sovereignty over their government. Hillary Clinton represented a vindication of the past thirty years of scandalous political opaqueness, that had produced two costly wars in Iraq, a free-trade dictate deracinating bustling American industry, and numerous political scandals revealing the people’s lack of control on their own government. Included in this neo-populist message was the aforementioned promise of a fully transparent government, one which will — or even can — answer to what the American people wanted. No longer was American’s trust in their government eroded by Fast and Furious, Pizzagate, or nonexistent WMDs — Donald Trump would be their voice, and restore to the government what the American people had desired for so long.When Trump-adjacent influencers posit that people should focus on nonexistent mass deportations instead of the ongoing cover-up for Epstein, it is blatant context denial. Regardless of whether X posts have any effect on administrative policy, mass deportations opposed to caring about Trump fighting tooth-and-nail to protect anyone associated with a liberal billionaire pedophile is an entirely fake artifice. The proposition of Trump to replace a compromised elite in opposition to the nation with those committed to himself, and by extension America. A Trump supporter witnessing him go out of his way to de facto exonerate a foreign intelligence asset sex trafficker — with similar infamous ties to the Clintons — should rightfully be outraged. He is in no way different to Obama, Clinton, or Bush. He is completely willing to protect the deep state’s incursion into American sovereignty just as they were.While the “Radical Right”’s loyalty to Trump continues to be exploited in pursuit of a worker program for illegal farm workers, an impotent Iran bombing campaign, and over $20 billion in weapons to Israel, his latest move to conceal the Epstein files is yet another test of loyalty for influencers to rationalize. Not only has Trump reneged on his campaign’s many promises to expose the files, his hitherto failed political promises of mass deportations and tariffs combined with extreme hawkish policy towards Iran render him little different than a George Bush or Mitt Romney. The worker program in particular should echo the “compromises” of amnesty for border security made by Reagan and Bush, for which that border security never arrived.Trump is not loyal to the base. He is not concerned with their well-being. He is concerned with their support, which has been made axiomatic craftfully over the span of the decade-long reign of Trumpian politics. As he has garnered their support automatically, he has used the base in his two presidencies as bargaining chips to achieve political points with that same deep state his campaign vowed to destroy. So long as the base supports Trump without regard to his political pursuits (or only providing pitiful attempts to steer him away from a bad policy, most commonly posting on social media about it) he has no incentive to carry out promises which take more than an executive order to achieve.As the base continually takes numerous abysmal “deals”, with influencers carefully molding it to be more digestible for them, Trump has daily fought on behalf of those same billionaire, globalist elites by refusing to release the files. Has the president ever forced the deep state to compromise with his base, forcing them to renege instead of him? Has Trump ever fought on behalf of the base so virulently as he has to cover up a globalist billionaire pedophile’s sex trafficking ring? The evident answer is at the very least seldomly.The Epstein cover up will transpire as the most egregious scandal of the Trump years regardless of political outlook. The left (not without some credence) views the saga as a tacit admission of guilt on part of the president, whereas the right — genuine actors, not influencers — is increasingly diverging from the president’s stance and wish for more transparency. However, it is not merely more transparency that should satiate the right into Trump-induced complacency. What this has revealed in its entirety is Trump’s willingness to break from his base into the deep state’s hands, reflected further in the numerous aforementioned policies (or failed promises) which should not be even in the periphery of an “America First” president. When the president no longer pursues his base’s support because of his efforts to protect a sex trafficking intelligence asset, perhaps that same base should listen.
